UK's TDG in play

In line with the view that further consolidation within the logistics industry is inevitable, both Wincanton and the investment company Laxey Partners have expressed an interest in acquiring UK-based TDG. Both offers for the major European contract logistics and chemical transport specialist are subject to due diligence. At face value Wincanton's offer of GBP2.8 (USD5.5) per share, valuing TDG at GBP228.5 (USD446) million, is the highest, and represents a significant premium over its net assets of GBP171 (USD333) million at the end of 2007. According to John Manners-Bell, Transport Intelligence's chief analyst: 'There are good synergistic reasons why the acquisition of TDG by Wincanton would work.
