DB in advisory role at Qatar

Deutsche Bahn (DB), Germany's state-controlled rail company is to advise and provide detailed consultancy services to the Qatari Government on plans to develop an integrated freight and passenger/ commuter rail network in the country. The memorandum of understanding recently signed between DB's Mobility Logistics division and Qatari Diar, a national investment company, is believed to be long term. It will involve the German group coming up with a conceptual plan for the whole project which entails the movement of both passengers and freight, including containers. However, DB is unlikely to commit any investment capital to the project. 'This agreement clearly demonstrates the strength of our integrated group and reputation in other countries,' said Otto Wiesheu, a member of DB's board of management for economic and political affairs.
