ECT has opened the first phase of its Delta Barge Feeder (DBF) terminal at the end of its Delta terminal in Rotterdam. It offers 400m of quay equipped with three gantry cranes. An additional 340m of quay is in place, but this will only become fully equipped with three cranes once enough demand has been established. The terminal should help improve the schedule reliability of barge and feeder services calling at the Delta container terminal in Maasvlakte I. Theo van Zijll, inland and feeder operations manager of ECT, explained: 'We can now handle an extra 300,000 moves per annum (480,000TEU) [5,770 moves per week], on top of the 7,000 barge moves per week that we handle at Hartelhaven, at the other end of the terminal, and another 7,000 feeder vessel and barge moves per week that we handle at the deepsea berths, so it is a significant step forward.
