Evergreen drops AEM service

Evergreen has suspended its Asia-Eastern Mediterranean (AEM) service. According to the carrier's latest schedule, its last vessel on the route, the LT Genoa, left Shanghai on September 9, due to call at Ningbo, Hong Kong, Yantian, Port Tanjung Pelepas, Ashdod, Limassol and Piraeus, ending up at Istanbul on October 10. The weekly service was only started at the beginning of November, but soon fell back to a fortnightly frequency. Only three vessels of around 3,000TEU instead of seven were deployed. An Evergreen spokesperson told CI: 'The withdrawal of this service is part of a rationalisation programme to cope with the change in the Far East/ Mediterranean market. Our other services in this trade are concurrently reorganised to maintain the service scope.
