Yang Ming Launches New Med Feeder Loop

Yang Ming has launched a second weekly feeder service in the eastern Mediterranean. Named TIX2, it deploys two vessels of l,800TEU - and calls at Port Said, Istanbul, Haydarpasa, Izmir, Ashdod and Port Said. TIX 1 deploys just one vessel of 1.200TEU capacity, and calls at Port Said, Ashdod, Mersin and back to Port Said, also on a weekly basis. The carrier needs additional feeder vessel capacity in the eastern Mediterranean region to make up for the cessation of the CKYH alliance's EMX service between Asia and Ashdod, Piraeus and Limassol at the end of last year. Yang Ming is clearly serious about expanding its presence in this area as it has recently opened its own office in Turkey. Called Yang Ming Anatolia Shipping Agency, it is a joint venture with its existing agent, Egekont Container Transport, part of the Arkas Group.
