The report highlights just how difficult 2009 was, with the global pool of container equipment declining by 1.4 to 27.5 million TEU during the year. Both ocean carriers and lessors stopped buying equipment and the manufacturing of standard dry freight containers was halted. In contrast, there was some expansion in the reefer and dry freight specials sectors as carriers sought new business.
