An uphill struggle

The large number of private sector container train operators (CTOs) inducted by the state-controlled Indian Railways (IR) back in January 2006 are 'running out of steam', according to one senior executive of one of the licensee operators. What began as a euphoric response from several renowned Indian and overseas firms engaged mainly in the shipping and logistics business has in recent times seen their patience and stamina sap.
