US retail imports set to rise

Forecasters believe that US retail container imports will start growing over the next few months as consumer spending shows signs of recovery. The monthly Port Tracker report, prepared by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Hack-ett Associates, expects imports to start rising following nearly two-and-a-half-years of declines, while December's retail sales performed better than expected. The 10 US ports surveyed by Port Tracker handled 1.09 million TEU in November, down 8% from October, traditionally the busiest month of the year, and 10% from November 2008.
