JICT expands

The Hutchison Port Holdings-managed (HPH), Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) at Tanjung Priok, Indonesia, has secured a USD 70 million loan to expand the facility. The funds have been sanctioned by the International Finance Corporation. It is understood that the plan will raise the facility's annualised handling capacity from between two to three million TEU a year by 2013. An industry source told CI:' This terminal is highly congested, partly because most mainlines, such as Maersk Line, CMA CGM and APL, call at the weekend and no immediate evacuation of the containers can take place as the customs department is closed.
