Top carriers marginally increased their share of the fleet in first quarter 2013 and this is expected to continue throughout the rest of the year. Containerisation International reviews the latest numbers The past quarter (up to April 9,2013) saw a slight rise in the number of slots controlled by the world's leading liner shipping companies, with the top 20s' share of 14.2m teu up 1% on the 141m teu under their charge in January. It was equivalent to 76.7% of all slots in service, up from 76.4% in the previous analysis (see 'Winds of change', February 2013, pl2) and a further rise to at least 77% is expected by year end, depending on ship sales and demolition by the 'big guns'.
