In recent days, Venezuela's national oil company has issued a series of new tenders to buy refined products in volumes said to be unprecedented. Platts has reported seeing seven tenders, including four for delivery over July 1-20 and the other three for delivery over the longer term from July to Dec. The four July purchases are for up to 900K bbl of ULSD, 300K bbl of 95 RON gasoline blendstock, 300K bbl of 91 RON blendstock, and 600K bbl of catalytic naphtha. The longer-term tenders are for 720K bbl of MTBE, 3MM bbl of heavy naphtha (with an option for an increase to 6MM bbl), and up to 2MM bbl of vacuum gasoil. "Never before have we seen this massive purchase of refined oil products, not in this volume," said a source with PDVSA, added that another six tenders were also issued recently. Details on those tenders were not available, however.
