Bob Thornton, technical director of marine fuel at World Fuel Services, speaking at the Platts Inaugural Bunkering and Storage Asia conference in the week ending June 30 said he expects global bunker fuel demand to fall slightly in H2 compared to HI levels. "Some challenges are expected. A lot hinges on suppliers' and shipowners' decisions in the next two years and more, as no single solution fits all." Mr. Thornton elaborated that vessel operators will begin to adjust operations to comply with the International Marine Organization (IMO) low-sulfur bunker standard set to be implemented in Jan. 2020, which should weigh on high-sulfur bunker demand.
