Canadian oilsand company spokesman Leithan Slade said on July 10 that a small fire had broken out that morning in a sulfur emissions reduction unit at the Syncrude oilsands plant. Mr. Slade said that it was too soon to tell whether the incident would affect production, but two days later, sources close to the matter said that July production would have to be reduced by 3.2MM bbl to 5.2MM bbl.
