NLMK to boost La Louvière hot-strip mill capacity

Novolipietsk Steel (NLMK) has started the pre-assembly of three new finishing mill stands for its hot-strip mill upgrade at its La Louvière plant in Belgium, the company said on Friday August 28. After the modernization is finalized, the plant’s capacity will increase to 2.2 million tonnes of hot-rolled steel and 1.5 million tonnes of pickled steel per year, up from 1.68 million tpy and 1.28 million tpy respectively. The first phase of the mill transformation is scheduled for completion by the end of 2020; the second phase will be completed in 2021.
