In the second part of this two-part feature Colin Whitbread examines the progress of three more former GM supplier subsidiaries: Remy International, Guide Corporation and Delphi. In many ways, Remy International has performed impressively in the 11 years since its separation from GM. At the time of that separation, in August 1994, the company was predominantly a North American OE supplier, with over 56% of its fiscal year 1995 sales derived from GM. Since then, through a broad series of corporate strategies, including strategic capital investments, acquisitions, joint ventures and facility and workforce rationalisation, Remy has achieved success and become a low cost, global manufacturer and remanufacturer with a more balanced business and product mix between the aftermarket and the OE market.
