1995 Markets maintain Momentum

The recycling industry rode into 1995 on the momenturn it had gained in 1994, and that momentum continued through most of the year. Some materials most notably, paper and plastics - faced dramatic price decreases mid-year, but in general, market fundamentals look strong as 1996 approaches. Ferrous scrap markets have been at a high level for the past several years, with strong demand and high prices. Although there is some softening in the markets late in 1995, most industry watchers forecast an improvement at the beginning of the new year, with conditions remaining steady throughout 1996. "1995 came in with a bang and went out with a bit of a whimper, but overall, when you total everything up, it was a very good year," says John Jacobson, president of Jacobson & Associates, Rochester, N.Y.
