A plumber has received a six-month prison term, suspended for a year, after carrying out unsafe gas work while not legally registered to do so. The plumber, Glenn Edkins, was also ordered to pay a victim compensation order of £1,275 and costs of £1,264 Edkins, trading as GPE Plumbing and Heating, installed a boiler at a home in Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire, between 8 and 22 November 2012. The householders asked Edkins to come back after they smelled gas in the room in which the boiler was located soon after completion of the work. Edkins identified the location of, and fixed, the leak. The occupants then checked Edkins with Gas Safe Register and discovered he was not a registered engineer despite having carried out work for them in the past.
