Falling grain buries second Transpan worker

An animal feed company has been fined ￡80,000 following the death of an employee who was buried by wheat that was being unloaded from a lorry. The employee, Andrew Harrold, was the second person in five years to be crushed fatally by grain at Transpan (Scotland)'s Tore Mill site on the Longman Industrial Estate in Inverness. Mr Harrold, who was aged 33, was unloading wheat from a lorry on 5 February 2011. The tipper was already rising before he had finished opening the catches on the back door, which burst open, discharging the grain onto him. Emergency services used a digger, and a colleague assisted with a shovel, to remove eight to 10 tonnes of wheat before they found Mr Harrold. He was unconscious annd died at the scene.
