ALTAIR Nanotechnologies (Altairnano) has signed a multi-year agreement to supply its patented NanoSafe 35KWh battery pack systems to California-based Phoenix Motorcars. The initial order, worth US$1.04m, will be delivered to Phoenix in February and March 2007, with additional shipments of up to 500 battery pack systems worth between US$16m and US$42m planned for later this year. The NanoSafe battery pack, Altairnano claims, will help Phoenix SUTs (Sports Utility Trucks) achieve a range of 135 miles and a top speed of up to 100mph. The vehicles will also meet California's Air Resources Board Type 3 Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) standards. The battery pack can be recharged in less than ten minutes at fast-charge stations.
