The number of homeworkers in the UK increased by 27.7% between 2008 and 2018, ac-cording to a new TUC analysis. Al-though the analysis is entitled, Growth in homeworking has stalled (bit.ly/2ZFzvmP), the figures show there were 1,722,000 employees working from home in 2018, which is 374,000 more than 10 years earli-er. Although homeworking can im-prove work-life balance, productivi-ty and staff retention, the TUC claims that insufficient numbers of employers are offering their workers the option of homeworking. It "esti-mates that around four million more UK workers would like to work from home for at least some of their work-ing week but aren't given the chance". The analysis reveals that homeworkers are most likely to be homeowners, older, managers and male. (Although there are now 36% more women working from home than 10 years ago, there are almost twice as many men as women homeworkers.) There are also 230,000 disabled people who work from home.
