It's tough out there

Cuts, job losses, increased workloads... The reality of life on the front line is hard, and it's going to get harder. That was the general sentiment of this year's annual professional conference in Telford last month. But, despite the sombre messages and frank discussions, the vibrancy and energy was palpable. What a lovely bunch you are too - engaged, approachable and full of enthusiasm - but of course, we wouldn't expect anything less! Given the fraught and incredibly stressful times you are facing, we were expectinq a few more downtrodden souls to be attendinq the event, but the reality was quite different. You came together, discussed with your peers, debated with speakers and challenged the shadow minister, even earning yourselves an invitation to the Houses of Parliament. You told it how it is and it felt to us that you found a true solidarity in doing so. The working environment for so many does seem exceptionally tough and.yet the concurrent sessions, the posters and the masterclasses seemed to reflect a workforce that is, despite everything, still innovative and inspiring, while retaining children and families at the heart of everything. There is so much good work going on out there.
