Nord Stream passes final hurdle

The Nord Stream pipeline project has selected three companies to provide steel pipes for the project, eliminating the last organizational hurdle for the pipeline, which will transport gas from Vyborg in Russia via the Baltic Sea to Greifswald in Germany, Nord Stream said January 22. Construction work on the 55 billion cubic meters/year pipeline is expected to start on April 1, with gas transport on the line expected to start in 2011. Delivery of the pipes for the second pipeline is scheduled to start in May.
