摘要

The influence of the mechanical properties of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) doped Yttria Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal (Y-TZP) was characterized and evaluated in this study. Samples were sintered using various composition of Al2O3Y-TZP and a ramp rate of 10 degrees C/minute with 2 hours of holding time and a temperature range of 1200 degrees C to 1500 degrees C. The effect of alumina on the bulk density, fracture toughness, Vickers's hardness and Young's Modulus of Y-TZP was determined. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) revealed that the phase and microstructure of the sample. The results showed that the addition of aluminum oxide has improved the mechanical properties as highest values results show that the addition of 1.0wt% Al2O3 was effective in aiding densification (similar to 98% theoretical density).
