Five years or so ago you couldn't get money to do research into cod aquaculture. Fortunately that's no longer the case, according to a top researcher at the Memorial University of Newfoundland's Ocean Sciences Centre (OSC). A growing range of projects is now being funded through programs such as the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans' Aquaculture Collaborative Research and Development Program (ACRDP), focussed particularly on the area of broodstock husbandry. Under lead researchers Drs. JoeBrown and Margaret Burton, and technicians Lynn Lush and Joy Wade, the scientists have now succeeded in obtaining cod eggs out of season through the use of pho-tomanipulation.
