Breeding turtles in Australia: A large, unsatisfied market in southeast Asia has prompted this Queensland producer to try his hand at turtle culture
Turtles may not seem to be particularly exciting creatures to raise; however, they are a highly regarded food item in parts ot Eastern Asia and have quite a following as pets in the international aquarium trade. South East Queensland Fish (SEQ) is developing techniques to breed four Australian species of these amphibious reptiles, primarily for the ornamental trade, but with a view to producing them, once the technology allows, for a growing live-seafood market in Australia and overseas.
