The Aquaculture Program at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) continues to produce record numbers of cobia (Rachycentron canadum) fingerlings as a result of year-round natural spawning of selectivelybred F_1 broodstock. As reported earlier this year (May/June 2009 issue), the University of Miami has recently partnered with Troudodge Marine, a company well known amongst salmonid producers worldwide, to conduct collaborative research on the commercialization of cobia. The partnership has proven very successful, as UMEH and Troudodge have combined to produce and ship millions of fertilized cobia eggs and tens of thousands of cobia fingerlings since early 2009. In addition, preliminary trials at Troudodge's Vero Beach facility have been successful using recirculating systems and UMEH protocols for cobia larval rearing.
