摘要

There has been a gradual shift towards RAS technology at salmon hatcheries In Norway. However, more competence is needed say Norwegian authorities and to help ensure satisfactory animal welfare in RAS facilities, they have carried out an assessment ofthe current situation and the potential risks that exist. In order to judge whether existing legislation is adequate to safeguard fish welfare, the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food Safety (VKM) assessed if a risk of injury, disease or other unnecessary suffering exists for fish in Norwegian recirculation hatcheries. To carry out the assessment, VKM appointed an ad hoc group consisting of both VKM members and external experts. "The Norwegian Food Safety Authority saw a shift toward RAS technologyin the Norwegian hatchery industry, but there is still limited competence. They wanted to find out more about the risks," says Brit Hjeltnes, deputy director fish health at the Veterinary Institute who is chair of the ad hoc group.
