FRANCE - A team of researchers at the University of Lorraine in France recently released a study looking at the effects of temperature and timed temperature reductions on the oocyte development in female Eurasian perch. A recendy published paper entided "Effects of the thermal threshold and the timing of temperature reduction on the initiation and course of oocyte development in cultured female of Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis)" describes research done by professor Pascal Fontaine and sevral of his PhD students. "We want to promote [the Eurasian Perch's] aquaculture for human consumption," Fontaine told Hatchery International. For instance, there's a "niche market in Switzerland."Over the last few years, the European consumption of cultured Eurasian Perch has grown with the development of intensive methods using indoor water-recirculating systems, according to the paper published by Elsevier.
