Radvanec et al. (2004) provided a revised version of their metamorphic-hydrothermal model for siderite and associated mineral deposits of the Western Carpathians. Compared to the previous version (Grecula, 1995; Grecula et al., 1996), the upgraded model emphasizes the dominant role of retrograde Variscan metamorphic processes and admits remobilization of the Variscan siderite and other ore components during the Alpine orogenic cycle. Similar to the previous versions, the Variscan ore-forming processes genetically related to metamorphism are believed to dominate not only in the siderite vein and metasomatic deposits, but also in the superimposed vein sulphides (p. 292). The revised model is unsustainable in light of recent knowledge. The major pitfalls are summarized and commented as follows.
