Comment: Right-sizing adult neurology training for the child neurologist

Surprisingly little is mandated about adult neurology training during child neurology residency other than 12 clinical months. As this constitutes one-third of training quantitatively, does this make sense? Does this represent a historical relic that demands right-sizing, or something our predecessors got right? The answer is both.Dr. Schor's1 thoughtful reflection argues compellingly for learning neurology in the adult patient and nervous system. She adeptly delineates common differences between pediatric neurologic diseases, with emphasis on phenomenology, and adult conditions, with emphasis on neuroanatomy. The fundamentals of learning a detailed neurologic examination and cognitive mindset of localization are far more likely to be learned in adult neurology.
