KEA Cultural Affairs is a major player in policy design in Europe and is active not just in cultural and creative industries but also in education, youth and sports. The research and assignments conducted by KEA play a paramount role to the understanding of the cultural and creative sector and have informed policy-making in a range of areas. Since 1999 KEA has accumulated experience and expertise in research and studies focusing not just on the European Union but countries beyond this region, and in sectors such as audiovisual policies and digital media, EU law on competition and intellectual property, creative entrepreneurship and regional development. The Future of Cultural Policies is written by Philippe Kern, KEA's founder and managing director to mark KEA's twentieth anniversary. The book is divided in two separate but interconnected parts, both of which consist of a series of key texts from KEA's various assignments. While each part stands well on its own, their combination wisely serves the function of the book to provide an understanding of cultural policy and its significance for policy-making.
