Sebaceous naevus in a dama gazelle (Nangerdama mhorr)

Since 2006 the Dama gazelle has been considered acritically endangered species by the IUCN. At present,the captive population is distributed in several zoosaround the world. Bioparc (Valencia, Spain) has acaptive population of 9 individuals. A two-month-oldmale dama gazelle (Nanger dama mhorr)living at the Bioparc facilities, developed an annularverrucous hyperpigmented fairly alopecic cutaneousplaque on the left lateral aspect of the thorax.Haematoxylin and eosin study revealed an exophyticpapillary epidermal hyperplasia with mild orthokeratotichyperkeratosis. In the subjacent dermis, a glandularwell-differentiated epithelial tissue proliferation wasobserved. At the periphery, significant immature reservecells were identified, and in some central areas of theproliferating glands, an amorphous eosinophilic materialcorresponding to cystic degeneration was observed.Resection margins were clear, and no signs of malignancywere observed. Diagnosis was consistent with sebaceousnaevus. After a 12-month follow-up period, no relapsewas noticed.
