摘要

Surgical site infections (SSIs) cause significant patient morbidity and mortality and add dollar10 billion annually to health care expenditures. Staphy-lococcus aureus is the most common pathogen, with methicillin-resistant S aureus (MRSA) accounting for up to 65% of poststernotomy mediastinitis. Compared with infections due to methicillin-susceptible S aureus (MSSA), MRSA has been associated with increased mortality, treatment failure, length of hospital stay, and costs.
