Propagation of effects and low dose impact.

The moderator introduced the session by pointing out that the ultimate endpoint of interest is the induction of cancer, and where possible the various laboratory findings in terms of this endpoint need to be considered. The preceding sessions covered a variety of topics that relate to damage induction, oxidative stress, the role of micro-enviornment and subsequent responses (including adaptive responses and non-targeted genomic instability) and bystander effects. In this session the attempt was to focus on how these various processes and their underlying mechanisms impact the shape of the dose response curve, particularly at low doses (<10mGy) of low-LET (linear energy transfer) radiation delivered at both high and low dose-rate.
