摘要

Once again, our Managing Editor shows his poetic side with a short essay on the world as it could be. And of course, that is what foresight is all about! Enjoy!Traditionally, Spring brings new life and hope into the world. Or is this really just natures "yearly trick of looking new," as the British poet Philip Larkin put it?Is there anything "new" this year? Economics and politics don't appear to have cljanged much. The problems of the past still hang over us, weighing us down with unforgiven insults and longings for revenge. A year after the death of Osama bin Laden, America and its allies are still at war—so how much security has all our colossal effort achieved? If our environment doesn't look much better now than it did a year ago—and maybe even worse—what can we claim to have accomplished with our relentless science and brave new technologies?
