Interview: Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporate Executive O?cer Hitoshi Sasaki Discusses MMA Business

The Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group (MCHG) has reorganized its business into five units as of April 2022. One of these units is Polymers & Compounds / MMA, which now handles paint additives; fine chemicals such as acetyl polymers and functional additives; and methyl methacrylate (MMA), an acrylic resin raw material for which MCHG has the world’s top market share. Hitoshi Sasaki, executive VP at the group and head of this business unit, set some time aside to talk with The Chemical Daily about this unit and its outlook going forward. Asked first for an overview of how the MMA business is doing in today’s rather uncertain global situation, Sasaki said that while global MMA demand dropped in fiscal 2019 and 2020, the market has since recovered starting early 2021, and has done well enough then to make up for the loss in previous years. MCHG therefore expects solid results here for fiscal 2021, he said.
