Toyota Tsusho to Start Selling Bio-PA From Chinese Producer

Toyota Tsusho Corp. (TYO:8015) is set to begin selling bio-based polyamide (PA) this fiscal year. The company has concluded a distributor agreement with Shanghai-based Cathay Industrial Biotech Ltd., allowing it to serve as a sales agent for supplying the Chinese producer’s bio-PA to Japanese companies. Cathay’s bio-PA is produced by taking plant-based 1,5-pentanediamine (DN5)-itself created by fermenting corn-derived sugar with a proprietary alkali-tolerant yeast-and polymerizing this DN5 with long-chain dicarboxylic acid created by fermenting petroleum-derived normal para?ns. Based on the number of carbon atoms in the dicarboxylic acid, Cathay can produce PA56, as well as PA510 through to PA518.
