UPM and IG BCE union settle labour dispute in Germany

UPM's German paper mills will not drop out of the industry-wide collective agreement. This was one of the main results agreed by UPM representatives and the German mining, chemicals and energy trade union (IG BCE) in Hanover two weeks ago. A special commission was entrusted with the job to find exceptions to the standard rules and regulations that reflected the competitiveness of the Hurth and Plattling plants - and to harmonise collective bargaining coverage of the German UPM facilities without generating additional costs, said Dr. Hartmut Wurster, labour relations manager of the German UPM companies.
