Canada PMRA amends uses of thiophanate-methyl

The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has decided to stop several uses of the systemic fungicide, thiophanate-methyl, while allowing certain crop applications if adequate risk mitigation measures are undertaken. Its ?nal re-evaluation decision takes into account public comments on a 2019 proposal to cease certain uses of the herbicide because of concerns over its effect on human health. Thiophanate-methyl is registered in the country for use on greenhouse non-food crops, terrestrial food crops, mushrooms, outdoor ornamentals, turf, and seed treatment for food and feed applications.
