SlantRange gets EU patent for sunlight calibration tech

US precision agriculture business SlantRange (San Diego, California) has been granted a patent by the European Patent Oice for its sunlight calibration technology that allows accurate crop measurement, prescriptions and forecasting from crop imagery. The company notes that this is the first patent for its technology in the EU, and tenth overall. SlantRange’s “sunshine sensor”, also referred to as the “downwelling sunlight sensor”, or “incident light sensor”, leverages spectral imagery to analyse factors such as the physical and chemical composition of plants, their maturity, nutrient uptake, hydration, pest pressure, and species distribution, among others.
