What I've learnt in business

Looking back over the past ten years, I can identify many key lessons that have helped me create and invest in successful companies. It is only with hindsight that I've come to realise how valuable these insights have been and how these learnings have helped shape my business life and decision-making process. Lesson one was less than a decade ago while living in London and managing a team of commercial property acquisition consultants. Over time I built a very successful team and in doing so was given much recognition and responsibility. We needed to expand the team and brought in a guy who on paper had great experience; it turned out, however, that he wasn't the most responsible or smartest employee - often not understanding some of the most basic property investment concepts. Where he excelled, however, was networking and bringing in opportunities before they even came to market.
