TACKLING NZ'S WASTE TO LANDFILL

IN 2008 THE Government's Waste Minimisation Act imposed a levy on all waste going to landfill and the opportunity to list priority products that should not go. The aim being to reverse growing waste issues and put the responsibility back on those who create waste. Currently the waste levy is $10 for every tonne sent to landfill. In other countries this is closer to $100 a tonne. The levy has not changed, although there's a clear need for it to increase.
