Miscellaneous note: 4. The conservation potential of a Chilean conifer and a climber

The publication in 1998 of the 1997 IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants, has given a new window of knowledge to horticulturalists who now have a quick and easy reference to discover which of the plants they grow are threatened in the wild. 174 Cultivating threatened plant species gives yet another motive to horticulturists and certainly helps justify those collections funded by the public sector. The most pressing question to be asked though, is how useful are these collections for conservation purposes?
