Stora Enso to close PM 1 at Veitsiluoto at the end of April

Stora Enso has completed negotiations with employee representatives on the planned closure of Veitsiluoto's light-weight coated (LWC) paper machine PM 1 and announced that the machine will be permanently shut down by the end of April. The move will affect 88 employees, the company reported and will decrease Stora Enso's present coated magazine capacity by 15%. PM 1 has an annual capacity of 190,000 t, which according to Stora Enso represents around 2% of the total coated magazine paper capacity in Europe. Customers will be served from Veitsiluoto's PM 5 and from the Kabel mill in Germany, the company explained.
