Some recently established pests of ornamental plants

New pests continue to arrive in the UK and several are now established in gardens. ANDREW HalsTEAD reviews some that have become part of our pest fauna over the last 40 years. SOME PLANT PESTS that are imported into the UK are detected at the point ofentry or at importing nurseries and are dealt with before they can become a problem. Others turn up in botanic gardens on obscure plants that few people are able or wish to grow, and so have limited scope to become significant pests. Some pests, however, evade or bypass these restrictions and get into parks and gardens where they can have a major impact on cultivated plants.
