It is said that perry pears are only found within sight of May Hill, a landmark lying roughly half way between Gloucester and Ross-on-Wye. Although not true, the three National Plant Collections, one at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern, and two at Hartpury just north of Gloucester, are both within 25km of the hill.
