Rio Tinto, BP sell Kaltim Prima to PT Bumi Resources for 500 million dollars

Rio Tinto said 21 July that it and equal partner BP separately agreed to sell their Indonesian coal joint venture PT Kaltim Prima Coal to a local resources group for a combined 500 million dollars in cash as part of a divestment agreement with the host government. Kaltim Prima, the country's second largest coal mine, would be acquired by PT Bumi Resources Tbk., the same company that acquired BHP-Billiton's 80 percent stake in another major Indonesian mine, Arutmin, in October 2001 for 148 million dollars. The remaining 20 percent equity shareholding at Arutmin is held by PT Bakrie Brothers, which has controlling interest at Bumi.
