Right before the new Mustang debuted, Ray Skillman Performance Ford turned its customer waiting room into an accessories showcase. Owner Bill Skillman says of the 60 to 70 Mustangs on his lot, at least 20 are tricked out anywhere from "mild" to "wild" by the in-house shop. Accessories sales pump in several hundred thousand dollars of extra revenue, he says. Though Skillman sells accessories over the counter at his Greenwood, Ind., store, the big profits come from prepping cars and trucks so well that buyers fall in love. "They can't price-shop a custom vehicle you've built."
