摘要

Semiologic analysis of language manifestations in complex partial seizures may help to localize and later-alize the epileptogenic zone. Ictal well-formed speech automatisms suggest a language-nondominant hemisphere origin,1 mainly in the temporal lobe. Postictal aphasia or dysphasia suggests a language-dominant hemisphere origin.1 Conversely, second language speech automatisms (SLSAs) have been reported rarely.2"4 In the present study, we examined the incidence of peri-ictal SLSAs and their possible localizing and lateral-izing value. Methods and a summary of the presurgical evaluation of the patients (table E-l) are on the Neurology Web site at www.neurology.org.
