rgentina was the first country in the world to confirm the transmission of the H1N1 influenza virus from humans to pigs in clinical studies. Although it only was widespread in two ranches in the Buenos Aires province, and the contamination now seems to be contained - because no new cases were found in over a month - the Service of Agro-alimentary Health and Quality of Argentina, SENASA, maintains a strict state of national sanitary alert in the territory. Several control and preventive measures weretaken urgently to avoid a further influenza contamination. For instance, transport of pigs was restricted to the areas in which the infected animals were found and concentration of pigs in fairs and expositions was forbidden until August 14.
